When you come in to sleep tonight

When you come in to sleep tonight
Could you consider, for a moment
That I would rather sleep all night
Than learn how the Test match went?

If my eyes are tightly shut
I am asleep, or pretending to be
You may like to speak to me, but
I would rather sleep, you see?

Please don’t walk up to me
To tell me the cricket score
It is all the same to me
That Dravid hit a four.

Don’t tap me on my hand
Or call out my name
I’d like to remain in Dreamland
Not hear about the game.

For it is two a.m. now
The middle of the night
I don’t see how I can show
Any semblance of delight.

When you come in to sleep..
Oh, when will you ever learn?
Now you are fast asleep
While I shall toss and turn.

  1. So funny! This has happened to me more times than I care to keep count of! Apparently the matches going on now are part of some trans-universe end-of-the-world series, which I would rather remain ignorant about.
